The Ocean

I am craving the ocean.
I wish for Virginia Beach
Or Cannon Beach
Or that beach on the end of the Muni that you get to when you go toward the zoo.
I am craving that glance at eternity that only an endless horizon has to offer.
And salt on my tongue.
Sand in my suit.

I want to think I see a jellyfish
And throw a gull my crust.
I want to wrap my blanket round my shoulders
As sand whips into my eyes.

I will wade out
Past where you exist
Past my shoulders
Past my neck.
I will think of The Awakening
And laugh, and dive low
Popping up for a wave in the face
That pulls me back to shore.

Today
I am craving the ocean.
